Summaries

While working in a large New York City department store, Linnie Randall expresses her desire for just one week of real pleasure. She is overheard by Garry Schuyler, the scion of an aristocratic family dressed as a humble mechanic, who decides to grant her wish. Following a wonderful week together, Linnie and Garry realize they love each other, and are immediately married. Garry reveals his true identity and introduces Linnie to his disapproving mother and sister, who proceed to make her life miserable. When she overhears Garry's mother say that her son's life has been ruined by marrying a shop-girl, Linnie runs from the house. Garry pursues her in his car and accidentally runs her over. Believing that Linnie is dead, Garry becomes mentally ill and is sent to Europe for treatment. Meanwhile, Linnie recovers and supports herself by dancing in a cabaret. Upon Garry's return, he discovers that Linnie is alive and the mother of their child. Once they are reunited, Garry saves Linnie from the legal chicanery of his family and the unwanted advances of her dancing partner.—AFI
