An intense tour of misunderstanding, ethical ambiguity, and epistemological violence, The Poorest Man in the World is a clear-eyed look at what it means to be a middle-class American family.

Thus far Grandison has failed to shed his adolescent lifestyle despite his new position as husband and stand-in father for Juliet's teenage daughter, Zoe. Juliet is more than willing to accommodate Grandison's immaturity as it protects her from being hurt by another man in her life. Meanwhile, Zoe is being confronted more and more with a hostile adult world, the challenges of which neither Grandison or Juliet are equipped to help her with. When the balance of Grandison and Juliet's domestic arrangement is toppled, all three members of the family seek comfort and direction in different places pulling some of them further away and some of them to greater intimacy.—Anonymous
