A bean named Pinto struggles to get the respect he wants as the host of a failing variety show and the father of two teenagers.

The show stars a bean named Pinto Peebles who hosts a variety show called "The Pinto Variety Hour". In the pilot, Pinto vows to take a more active role in guiding the success of "The Variety Hour"; he really doesn't want to go back to working at Spensee's in the mall. A time-traveling inventor on "The Variety Hour" goes back in time but doesn't return. The show's sponsor, a corporate conglomerate called Big Powerful Nobody (BPN for short) gets mad at Pinto for waiting 45 minutes for the inventor to reappear. Pinto's assistant, Martha, informs Pinto that BPN's company stooge, Sandoval, is auditioning a new host and Pinto crashes the audition. Pinto and Martha thwart the hiring of the other host and and Sandoval is incensed. Pinto vows to take a more active role in guiding "The Variety Hour's" success by picking the guests. Pinto and his wife, Flo, are also raising two teenagers, Lucy (16), and Max (14). In the pilot, Lucy has her 16th birthday and Pinto realizes he is out of touch with his kids. It's a show about human relationship issues told in an animated world populated by beans, rodents, and lizards. In the series, Pinto and Martha must figure out how to deal with the show's sponsor, Big Powerful Nobody (BPN for short), to keep "The Pinto Variety Hour" on the air... but the heart of the series is Pinto's relationship with his family.
