A few years into their marriage, Constance and John Graham apparently have proved wrong all of the doubters who advised against their May-December romance. Then, Alice Lorraine, who loved John before he met Constance, decides to break up his marriage. She convinces John that Constance is having an affair with Mason Tegars, after which John divorces his wife, who is soon reduced to dancing in a Chinatown cabaret, and marries Alice. Having gained her revenge, Alice writes a letter to John explaining how she tricked him, and she then leaves town with another man. John and Constance's daughter Geraldine then arranges a meeting between her parents, during which they are reconciled.—Pamela Short

John Graham, of settled and quiet disposition, is married to Constance, a girl of twenty. They have a little child, Geraldine, whom they idolize. Alice Lorraine, an adventuress, comes to visit the Grahams. One day John brings home the news that Mason Tegars is to open the estate adjoining theirs. Alice, quick to remember that which would hurt Constance, says, "An old sweetheart of yours, wasn't he, Constance?" Alice sees the jealous fire in John's eyes and she feels that she has the key to the situation, jealousy. That is what she must play upon, the jealousy of a middle-aged man with a young wife. Mason Tegars arrives and visits the Grahams. Alice arranges to visit his home with Constance, but at the last moment Alice turns back on pretense of having forgotten something, allows Constance to go alone, and arrives a little later with John. When they arrive they find Tegars and Constance seriously chatting. Constance convinces John that there is nothing between Tegars and herself. Alice, however, by a clever ruse, arranges that, while out skating, Tegars should find Constance apart from the other members of the party, alone. She falls and seriously injures her ankle and Tegars carries her in his arms. Her hair disheveled and clothes loosened, John, upon seeing them, hastily forms the conclusion that something of an unconventional nature occurred and tells Constance that a reconciliation is impossible. Finding John obdurate, Constance goes back to the city and later learns that John is obtaining a divorce, alleging unfaithfulness. Constance is forced to work in cabarets, but despite that, remains pure and noble. Once divorced, Alice has John at her mercy, and succeeds in having him marry her, after which she neglects the child and spends John's money recklessly and foolishly. She has a younger lover with whom she is infatuated. Some years have passed and Constance has gone down the ladder of youth and is dancing for a mere pittance. John is home and broods over the unfortunate state of his life, while Alice is planning an elopement with her young lover. One night a beautiful, unsophisticated young girl comes into the café where Constance is employed with one of the tough young customers. Constance is drawn to her and later learns from a friend that the young girl is the daughter of the wealthy old recluse John Graham, and that "he'd bet her father would go mad if he knew his carefully brought-up child was in a place of this caliber." Constance, realizing that it is her daughter, invites her to her dressing room and makes her identity known. Mason meets Constance's friend at the club and is told the story. Realizing that Constance is the woman meant, he signifies his intention of telling John the truth. Mason tells him that Constance never yielded to his love and that she was a good woman when divorced and still is. John, convinced, goes to his wife and daughter, but she is cold toward him. He hopes to win her back in time and provides for her needs, but the hard life she has led begins to tell on her. She is taken sick, and although John and Geraldine give her every attention she passes away.—Moving Picture World synopsis
