Summaries

In the summer following Obama's historic election, a group of Brooklyn eighth-graders and their two teachers take a road trip through the South to visit the sites of the Civil Right's Movement and to learn about the struggle from some of the Movement's surviving leaders. The Pass It On Project follows the group as they leave the familiar environment of home and school to embark on what each hopes will be a transformative journey. Told through the eyes of the students and teachers, this coming of age story explores issues of education, race, history and civil rights through characters that span three generations; and points us towards re-imagining the future.—Anonymous
