A group of criminals take over a farm in rural Appalachia and try to secede from the United States.

Loosely based on true events, Lowell, along with his two friends Aloysius and Jim Burd, flee to the farm of a country veterinarian after an exchange of gunfire with the local sheriff's department over the possession of a gun. As the fugitives embed themselves at the farm with the police closing off their escape, Lowell decides he's got no other choice but to stay on the farm and secede from the United States. As a few more criminals come to join their new "country," Lowell realizes he needs to impose order on the farm, becoming the thing he was rebelling against at the outset.
