Leah Kleschna, the daughter of a Paris thief, is forced into a life of crime through fear of her father's rough associates. Paul Sylvain, a wealthy young criminologist, rescues Leah from a burning building, and she falls in love with him. Leah's father later sends her to Paul's study to steal the legendary Sylvain diamonds, but Paul detects her, taking her into his gentle custody. Raoul Berton, a French general's son who is also in Kleschna's power, then breaks into Paul's study; Paul and Leah hide, and Raoul steals the jewels. Made strong by Paul's love, Leah recovers the stolen diamonds and then, as penance, goes to work in the fields side by side with the peasants. Paul later finds Leah and persuades her to become his wife.—AFI
