An female family saga from the inside of Modernism, told by the women in the haze of the iconic architect Mies van der Rohe.

In the dramatic first half of the 20th century, in which dreams and traumas are so close together, almost all possibilities of modern existence are played out. How to live, how to love? These questions are different ones for women. The women around the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, his wife Ada, his three daughters Georgia, Marianne and Waltraut and his partner Lilly Reich seize the opportunities of the new age, but also experience the limitations of old patterns. When Mies emigrated to the USA in 1938, they struggled on their own through the barbarism of the Nazi era and the war. Their life was always determined by the absent husband, father and lover. The hybrid documentary THE MIES VAN DER ROHES tells a troubling family story and designs a moral painting of the modern age with unpublished films, images and documents - from a female perspective.
