American agent Peter Murphy is trying to escape from East Berlin when he encounters his exact double, millionaire playboy Mark Wainwright. After Wainwright is mistaken for him and killed by the KGB, Murphy assumes his identity and lifestyle, which makes a perfect cover for his covert activities. Peter Murphy is an American agent who is being pursued by men who are trying to kill him. He goes into a bar to hide and sees a man who looks like him. When the man leaves, the men chasing Murphy kill him thinking he's Murphy. Murphy then plants his id on him and takes his. He learns he is Mark Wainwright, a playboy. His boss wants him to become Wainwright to continue his work. He also learns that Wainwright has a wife. Who upon learning he is not her husband asks him to continue being her husband.
