A story of the pursuit of a strong man, George Arnold (William Farnum), for a false friend, Henry Benton (Charles Clary), who has betrayed him. The chase is from London to New York, from New York to a south seas desert island, where they are shipwrecked survivors, along with a woman, Helen Garfield (Louise Lovely), and back again to New York.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
Wealthy London bachelor George Arnold, learns that while drunk at a wild party, he proposed to a girl "not of his kind" named Florence. After George's friend, Henry Benton, convinces him to invest his fortune in oil stock, George discovers that the stock is worthless, and that Florence was part of the scheme. George assaults Benton, and is sent to prison for one year. Upon his release, he follows Benton to America, where penniless, George works at the New York docks. Seeing Benton board a steamer with Helen Garfield, an oil magnate's daughter to whom he has proposed, George becomes a stowaway. After fighting Benton, George is put in chains, but during a shipwreck, he is released and reaches a deserted island with Benton and Helen. Helen convinces George not to fight, but when Benton insults her, George's thrashing ends with Benton's fall over a cliff. After their rescue, George marries and learns that his stock is worth millions.—Pamela Short
