The seventh film of the series, preceded by "The Lone Rider Fights Back" and followed by "The Lone Rider in Cheyenne," (and not followed by "Border Roundup in sequence,) finds Jed Corbett, in the pay of local saloon owner Luke Miller, posing as the infamous Joaquin Murietta, terrorizing the town of Big Horn, so the claims of the gold miner can be bought cheaply. Sheriff Smoky sends for Tom Cameron, The Lone Rider, who arrives in town with his sidekick, "Fuzzy" Jones, posing as a dude musician. When pretty Laura Hicks refuses to sell out, Miller orders Corbett to burn her home. Tom obtains an outfit resembling that worn by the so-called Murietta, and has "Fuzzy" tip off Sheriff Smoky that he is raiding Laura's house. Miller, thinking that Tom is his henchman, sends a warning, confirming Tom's suspicions. The miners meet at Laura's house to form a vigilante group, and Miller plans to have Corbett's gang ambush them. Tom again assumes the identity of Murietta, but Miller has him unmasked. Tom, "Fuzzy" and Smoky are locked up in jail awaiting a trial, but Miller is inciting the townspeople into mob action.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
