The story is set during the Great Depression. Porky and Spanky are the sons of a single mother, who can not afford to buy them presents for Christmas. But they overhear her talking about a Blue Comet, and figure that she will buy the Blue Comet train set for them. She was actually talking about a vacuum cleaner, but the misunderstanding convinces her to buy the train for them. She uses the money she was saving to buy a coat for herself. When she gets sick, her sons enlist their friends in an effort to raise money. They want to purchase the coat for her.—Dimos I
