Hyrule is a seemingly perfect, peaceful land. Only once has evil appeared in the land, within Ganondorf the King of Evil Thieves. That evil has been sealed an age ago, never to return... Or so they thought. Out of nowhere, a dark wizard named Agahnim kidnaps the descendants of the ancient sages and locks Princess Zelda in a dungeon in order to break the seal over the Dark World and free the imprisoned Ganondorf. Meanwhile, Link, the nephew of the retired royal sword instructor Elnur, struggles to prove himself fearless and yearns for adventure. Elnur, who lost Link's parents years ago because they were in search of the Triforce, forbids Link from doing the same. When Link hears of Zelda's kidnapping, he secretly leaves the house to prove himself by saving Zelda. Unfortunately, he is overwhelmed by Agahnim. Just as Agahnim throws deadly magic at Link, Elnur appears and takes the hit. Link mourns the loss of his uncle. Afterwards, Link rescues Zelda from the dungeon and they hide in a sanctuary. Princess Zelda's beliefs are challenged, as are her childhood friend Link's. Together they go on an adventure to find the legendary Master Sword, rumored to be hidden in the Lost Woods. On the journey, they argue the wisdom of the ancient sages. As they get closer to the sword and are among the remains of the ancient Forest Temple, Link and Zelda see visions. Link finds himself a hundred years in the past, among the Six Sages: Saria, Darunia, Ruto, Rauru, Impa, and Nabooru--Ganondorf's former right hand. Link discovers that the Dark World was a corrupted Sacred Realm all along. After Link understands that wise men have make difficult choices and must learn from their consequences, he faces the lure of the Triforce. Giving in, he sees a reality where all his dreams come true--but at the cost of the people suffering. Rejecting this, his last test is to choose between running back to what he wants most, and confronting his fears. Choosing the latter, the guardian spirit of the Master Sword, Fi, grants them access to the sword while also revealing the truth about Hyrule's past--the people of Hyrule past have not been peaceful, but rather greedy and bloodthirsty, fighting each other for dominion over the Triforce. Ganondorf was only one of them. They find the Master Sword while they are in a shattered and baffled state. They come to the conclusion that the truth must be explained for the security and peace of Hyrule. Suddenly, they are ambushed by Agahnim's goons and are taken back to Hyrule Castle. Agahnim makes the final sacrifice to open the doors to the Sacred Realm, making Zelda vanish in front of Link's eyes. Agahnim reveals he plans to overthrow Ganondorf and claim the Triforce to himself. Attempting to hold the Master Sword, his hand burns. Link escapes confinement and fights Agahnim. Agahnim transports him back to the Lost Woods, where they battle. Link gains the upper hand when suddenly the shadow of Ganondorf appears, kills Agahnim, and pulls Link to the Dark World. They battle, when Ganondorf reveals that Link's parents stumbled upon the Dark World and that he killed them. Enraged, Link gains the upper hand, but Ganondorf suddenly pounds on Link and nearly destroys him. Link stands up and uses the power of the Master Sword to run faster and stab Ganondorf. Ganondorf is defeated, and as he is destroyed, a piece of the Triforce appears: The Triforce of Power. The Dark World restores itself back to the Sacred Realm, and Zelda appears. She reveals she has the Triforce of Wisdom, and Link has the Triforce of Courage. They reassemble the full Triforce, and Link wishes for the Triforce to stay safe within the Sacred Realm. For his sacrifice, the Goddesses grant him one last time to see his parents and beloved Uncle. After a sad goodbye, they fade away. Link takes the Master Sword back, and swears Zelda he'll protect her at all costs.
