An ex-Army intelligence agent is hired to impersonate a rich builder who has been marked for assassination. While impersonating the builder, he discovers a conspiracy to embezzle a land-development company.
After being captured and tortured by North Vietnam during the war, our hero is released. While recovering in the hospital, doctors discover that the Hero's brain has been damaged, specifically his short term memory. He is now able to learn skills, languages and the like rapidly. He can go to sleep with a tape recorder playing or take high speed crash courses. He then becomes fluent in a language, or the master of a skill. The only problem is that the new found ability only lasts for a short time, approximately 36 hours. At that point the ability suddenly disappears. The hero is recruited to take on difficult uberspy tasks that require specific skills to overcome the obstacles. Using Polish, flying a helicopter, Etc. His abilities are uniquely limitless, but time restricted. The hero must watch the clock as he races to meet his objective before the needed skill disapears.
