Synopsis

JULIE is a college film student in Los Angeles. She is a relative of Walter Lundin, the cinematographer for Hollywood 1920's silent film star Harold Lloyd. JOSEF is also a film student and is a relative of William Randolph Hearst. JULIE and JOSEF have a film class assignment to recreate the famous clock tower scene from Harold Lloyd's 1923 movie "Safety Last". They go to the FILMLA office in Hollywood to get a film location permit. The FILMLA EMPLOYEE argues with JULIE because she will not reveal how to recreate the special effects of the scene saying it is a family secret she cannot reveal. JOSEF defends JULIE explaining how Harold Lloyd created the camera effects.

JOSEF tells JULIE he loves her. JULIE protests saying she cannot have a normal relationship, because she is a HULRA, a female forest creature from Scandinavian folklore, and that when she is kissed she has supernatural powers.

JOSEF and JULIE go to the downtown location of the clock tower scene from "Safety Last". JOSEF tries and fails to recreate the complicated camera angle effects. JULIE explains that her great grandmother who was married to Walter Lundin was a HULDRA and she created the camera effect by lifting Harold Lloyd up to hang from the clock tower. JOSEF kisses JULIE and she transforms into a HULDRA becoming translucent floating in the air. JULIE lifts JOSEF up to the clock tower where he recreates the scene of Harold Lloyd hanging from the clock. After three minutes JULIE starts menstruating blood and changes back to human.

JOSEF and JULIE go to different locations in Los Angeles; Walk of Fame, Court of Flags, Griffith Observatory. The scenes alternate between JOSEF trying to convince JULIE to love him, and JOSEF kissing JULIE and her transforming into the translucent floating HULDRA.

JULIE meets her SISTER. She tells her not to have a relationship with JOSEF.

JOSEF drives JULIE to his home at Hearst mansion. They stop at beach locations on the way. JOSEF eventually becomes frustrated with her rejection and starts to flirt with women walking by at the beach. JULIE becomes angry at his flirting.
