Miraculous circumstances, beginning with Battle's survival after stepping directly on an Improvised Explosive Device laced with flesh-eating bacteria, unite these two strangers. When Inga first meets David he is in a coma and already a triple amputee, having lost both legs and one arm. Upon waking up, Davids eyes meet Ingas, and they form an instant, magical connection. He calls her mom and she calls him son. Inga is blind to his limitations, insisting that he fulfill all of his dreams, despite his injuries. Just as her love for him helps Battle to prevail, helping him allows her to give back to her adopted homeland for all the joys it has brought her.
