Alcoholic Calvin cons his way into a job tending the grounds of a hillside mansion owned by the reclusive Jack. On the night Calvin stumbles into a bathroom to see Jack with a gun to his head, an unlikely friendship is born.

Calvin, an alcoholic wastrel, is forced to find a new job after he is fired from his grounds-keeping job at a golf course. Jack, heartbroken and suicidal, has refused to leave his property since his wife left him for a past love a year prior.
