Gunnar Carlman has heard about the beautiful girls in Småland and takes the train to Vimmerby to meet them himself. He gets a job as a farm-hand at the mean-spirited farmer Jönsson's farm. It doesn't take long before he has had enough of Jönsson's anger and gets a new job at another farm, Svalnäs. It is owned by the young and handsome Christina Larsson.
