A clown of the street falls in love with a girl with tuberculosis, and, trying to find a way to cure her, he takes her to a monastery. The clown returns to the street performances with the dream of meeting with the girl again.

During the long journey from the United States of America to Greece, an impecunious stowaway and perfect impersonator of Charles Chaplin has a chance encounter with Ismini, the beautiful but sad fiancée of frivolous Didis. But, the street performer becomes separated from Ismini in the bustling Port of Piraeus, only to reunite in the Royal Garden of Zappeion where they exchange vows of eternal devotion. However, fate has other plans in store for the young couple, and the clown, who has devised a daring plan to rid Ismini of Didis, finds himself with his back to the wall. As a result, Ismini's health rapidly deteriorates. Will the clown of life accept his destiny?—Nick Riganas
