A tough young man who helps to evict poor people from their houses falls in love with a girl who lives with her father in a building that's about to be demolished.

In a poor community in 1950s Mexico, landlord Andrés Cabrera wants to evict his tenants to demolish the buildings and sell the land for serious profit, but community leader Carmelo González resists to his attempts. Andrés hires strong slaughterhouse worker Pedro El Bruto to intimidate the dwellers, and his wife Paloma sexually harasses Pedro. Pedro goes to the community at night and attacks weak Carmelo, who bleeds to death. An evil old man, Andrés, is the owner of an old building where very poor people live. He wants to demolish the building, and gives the people a few hours to evacuate, but they confront him and refuse to leave their homes. Andrés looks for help and finds it in Pedro, a tough, strong, and rude man, but not quite clever. Andrés hires him to bully the people and make them leave the building. Meanwhile, Pedro works in a butcher shop alongside Andres' attractive wife Paloma, who is attracted to Pedro. One night, Pedro is making a tour of the building threatening people, and he fights with a man to dares to face up to him, but Pedro accidentally kills him and escapes and hides with Paloma, who is now his lover. Meche, the murdered man's daughter, is a charming and pretty girl; she helps Pedro escape from the angry neighbors. Pedro falls in love with Meche and offers his home to her. Meche starts to have feelings for the naive but "brutal" man--without knowing that he's her father's murderer.—Alejandro Frias
