The spoiled, arrogant and slow-witted son of a wealthy businessman falls in love with the daughter of his father's business manager.

Billy Craig, the son of the wealthy president of a steamship line, falls in love with Linda Harper, whose father works for the elder Craig. When Billy's father refuses to give him enough money to cover a gambling debt, Billy steals it from his father's desk, pays the gambler, and leaves town on a trip. Linda's father is accused of the theft and sent to prison. Billy returns from his trip, learns of Harper's incarceration, and confesses his guilt to his father. To spare his ailing wife the shock of a public confession, the elder Craig has Billy forcefully taken aboard one of the company ships. Billy later escapes from the ship, returns home to find his mother dead, and confesses to Linda's ailing father, who has been freed on parole. Billy offers to go to jail, but Harper requests only that Linda be kept ignorant of the facts. Harper then informs Billy that Linda has gone to see Glenn Hayden in an effort to borrow money. Billy goes after her, arriving just in time to save her from Hayden's unwelcome advances. Billy and Linda are married with their parents' grateful consent.—AFI
