Five men take a booze cruise to France. Nothing goes as planned. Meanwhile, their wives go about their business back in Kent.

A group of men from Kent: Clive (Martin Clunes); Rob (Neil Pearson); Dave (Mark Benton); Maurice (Brian Murphy); and Daniel (Ben Whishaw)--go on a booze cruise to France, with mixed success and many mishaps along the way. Events involving their wives and families back home also form a large part of the plot.

Cheery organization man Dave and his cocky friend Rob annually go to Boulogne on a booze cruise to buy cheap alcohol. This year they are joined, much to Rob's vocal annoyance, by tetchy old neighbour Maurice, middle-class businessman Clive--who is buying champagne for daughter Chloe's upcoming wedding--and Dave's son Daniel the groom-to-be--who, after an encounter with a charming French girl, fails to return with the others, so is absent when Maurice and Rob get arrested. Back home, Maurice's wife Grace and Rob's wife Leone bond after destroying their husbands' cherished garden eyesores, and Clive's wife Ruth is comforted by Dave's wife Cath when she receives the double shock of learning that Clive's business has collapsed and catching Chloe in bed with the wedding photographer. As the guys return to Dover, exploding champagne bottles and Maurice's purchase of a gun from a war museum cause further problems before the booze cruise is finally over.—don @ minifie-1
