Mellisuga Helenae - the smallest of all birds and grows to the equivalent of a large bee, hence the name, the bee hummingbird. To Bee or Not To Bee, that is the question for Hummer, a bee hummingbird. During a violent storm, her egg finds its way into a beehive colony. The egg hatches and she is soon discovered by Spud, the younger brother of the queen, Queen Blossom. Raised by the colony of honeybees, Hummer is confused about her true identity. Although accepted, loved, and considered a sister to Spud and Queen Blossom, Hummer is often teased about her appearance, and is labeled a "Wanna-Bee." Hummer musters up the nerve to leave the colony searching for her "real family," which enrages her beloved brother, Spud who fears he will never see her again. While on her journey, Hummer learns that her brother Spud, has been kidnapped by the honeybees' arch-rivals, the hornets, and a battle soon ensues between the honeybees, the hornets, and a hummingbird.
