Tom (Speedman) and Dan's (Marsden) one-night stand turns into an intense power-play between captor and captive.
One-night stand can lead to fatal results!Tom is a living proof! He's a straight family guy whose life turns upside down when he finds out that he has AIDS so he tricks his ex gay lover Dan into an empty flat & ties him up awaiting his blood test results.
Tom (Scott Speedman) and Dan (James Marsden) meet in a bar and then proceed to Tom's apartment together. Dan is friends with Isabella (Sofía Vergara). He had sent her home before coming to Tom's apartment.Dan was totally coming onto Tom in a big way and was almost pressing him to have a sexual experience with him. Tom is shy and says he has only ever been a single guy before, while Dan is "experienced" one and claims he has had 6 sexual encounters with men. Dan says he is safe.
While there, Dan realizes that he had been in that same apartment before (he remembers a ceramic frog that he had broken on his last visit). Five years earlier, Dan and Tom had a one night stand there. According to Tom, that encounter with Dan was his first and only homosexual experience. TOm had recognized Dan the moment he saw him in the bar and had decided to bring him home. Its clear that Dan does not remember anything about his first encounter with Tom. TOm, on the other hand, remembers every detail, including the fact that he broke the frog and not Dan. Tom wants to know how Dan could say he was safe, when he didn't even remember the encounter with Tom. At this point Dan gets nervous and wants to leave. But Tom suddenly attacks Dan and takes him prisoner.
Some years later after the sexual encounter with Dan, Tom's wife is found to be HIV positive. Despondent after receiving this diagnosis from her doctor, she drives through a red traffic light and is killed in an ensuing collision.Subsequent to these events, medical tests reveal that Tom is also HIV positive (That test was done 24 days ago). Tom blames himself for passing HIV on to his wife (thereby betraying her trust and knowing that somewhere she realized that she was killed by the man she loved the most) and, in turn, he blames Dan for passing the virus on to him. Reasoning that Dan, ultimately, is to blame for his wife's death, Tom devises a plan to exact revenge.
He holds Dan hostage, keeping him bound and gagged to a chair in his apartment. He draws blood from Dan in order to conduct a test to determine Dan's HIV status. If Dan's test results are positive for HIV, Tom vows to kill Dan. If the results are negative, Tom agrees to release Dan unharmed. The test results will be available in 24 hrs.Dan claims that he was tested 2 months ago and was tested 3 times in the last 5 yrs. Tom says that's a lie.Dan then claims that he always wears a condom, but Tom says that this is just another one of Dan's lies and maybe he slipped it off half way. Dan then says that Tom could have gotten HIV from any man or woman that he has been with.
During the night, Dan shits himself and the next morning he demands that Tom releases his shackles so he can take a bath. When the shackles are removed, Dan attacks Tom and tries to escape. But TOm recovers in time and manages to subdue Dan again.Dan begs Tom to let him talk, else he will go crazy. Dan went to Michigan State, while TOm went to Liberty community college. Dan took 6 yrs to graduate. Tom wanted to go to Arizona State Univ as they have a great football program. Tom studied archaeology. They engage in banter over their favorite TV stars. Dan says Tom is a decent man and asks him to let him go, but Tom is adamant that if the test comes positive, he will cut his throat and let him bleed to death.
Dan continues to argue that Tom's wife could have gotten HIV from other sources, but Tom is adamant that they killed her. Dan insists that the last sexual encounter for him for 4 months ago, but Tom reveals that he has been following Dan, and that he had sex with a Blondie (Brian Campbell), just the previous week. Tom accuses Dan of spreading HIV to others, without concern for their safety.Tom says he will let Dan go, if he tells the truth about not wearing condoms when he has sex, and that he never got tested in his life. Dan sticks to his story. He says Tom's wife killed herself as she couldn't live with what she did and that she gave HIV to Tom.In the end, Tom returns to the apartment and lets Dan go. As Dan is leaving, Tom asks him when he had last been tested (Dan admits that he was never tested before). A few moments later, he reveals that Dan's test was, in fact, positive. He decided to let Dan go because he realized that his positive status was the result of his choices which he couldn't blame on anyone else. The screen fades with Dan standing in Tom's doorway in shock.
