Fatima, a hardworking supermarket worker, sacrifices her freedom to protect her greedy daughter Maria from a drug trafficking scheme, ultimately questioning if Maria views her as a monster.

Fátima Almeida and Maria Laurinda Almeida de Amaral are mother and daughter. Joined only by the blood tie, but different in everything else that characterizes them. Maria Laurinda is a young woman who hates her name and her low social status and does not look for ways to reach her goal: to live a life away from privations and to marry the bisexual millionaire Afonso Gomes Martins de Mello. Afonso is a rich boy, who leads an irresponsible life and dates with Catarina. Fátima is a hard-working, honest and determined supermarket worker who, knowing one of her daughter's schemes to make money - Maria Laurinda is preparing to make a drug transport - takes her place by letting herself be arrested in place of her daughter. Will Fátima ever see her as the monster she is?
