The action of the series takes place in the years 1883 to 1893 on Polish lands under Russian rule. The main character, Marcin Borowicz, begins his education at the junior high school in Klerykowo (Kielce in the series). There he encounters Russification, which he initially unconsciously succumbs to.—G
