Jane, a soon-to-be-married woman, is reunited with her imaginary friend Michael who returns in a human form. Soon, Jane begins doubting her feelings for her fiance as she gets attracted to Michael.

Michael Friend (Eric Winter) is a "guardian angel" who appears when children need an invisible ("imaginary") friend, until the birthday after his help worked. His charges are usually from ages 5 to 10. Would-be author Jane Claremont (Alyssa Milano) is about to marry television-series star Hugh Morrison (Ivan Sergei) when Michael appears to her again, but neither understands with which mission. He's in love with her, a new experience, and gradually seduces her by being his irresistible, soul-mate-like self and becomes corporeal.
