After Aditya Roy, the Assistant Editor of a magazine, suffers a heart attack for a third time, his wife, Leela, has him taken by ambulance to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where he is placed in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit. While she anxiously awaits the prognosis, she meets with the wife, Shirin, and son, Altaf, of yet another patient, Shaukat Ali, an underworld gangster, who has suffered his first heart attack.
