Tough Det. Sgt. Dave Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and educated Det. Sgt. Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (David Soul) are plainclothes cops taking on dope dealers, muggers, and other thugs, aided by their Souped-up red-and-white 1974 Ford Gran Torino and informant Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas).
