'Standing By: Gatz Backstage' is an impressionistic and poetic, feature-length documentary focusing on backstage life during 'Gatz', an epic stage rendition of F. Scott Figzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby'. 'Gatz' (which Ben Brantley of The New York Times called 'the most remarkable achievement in theater not only of this year but also of this decate') is a highly acclaimed, 8-hour theatrical event, created by renowned New York theater company Elevator Repair Service (ERS), in which the entirety of Fitzgerald's novel is voiced and enacted onstage.
