Five budding comics meet their mentor to prepare for an open-mic event that could get them a real gig and change their lives. All they have to do is be at their funniest. But humour is a deadly serious business. And quite often, the joke's on you.
Stand up revolves around five budding comics who meet their mentor to prepare for an open-mic event. One of the comics is a chartered accountant who comes from a small town and is exploring being a comic. Another is an urban, angst-ridden comic, who does an act of being unhappy and angry. Another comic uses rap. There is a woman comic who does a slightly more Feminist comedy. And then there is a Hindi comic who is not anti English but is pro Hindi, who has a more desi kind of humour, and stays clear from Western tropes. The open-mic event could get them a real gig and change their lives. All they have to do is be at their funniest. But humour is a deadly serious business. Will they eventually nail the gig and be successful?
