Synopsis

Wallace Eastman is the CEO of HairCo., a massive corporation dedicated to enhancing people's hair. Dr. Harrison, a scientist, escapes by plunging into a river while his helicopter follows him.

Twelve years later, Dr. Harrison's son, Adam Harrison, resides in Portland with his mother, Shelly. The school bullies Tony, Dale, and Garcia continue to harass him, and he has a mutual crush on Emma, a good-heated girl. He gradually discovers that odd things are happening to him, such as his feet growing so that his toes protrude from his shoes, improved vision and hearing, and his hair growing back overnight even after his mother chopped it off completely.

Adam sneaks out to look for his father after learning of his existence and his present whereabouts from a box Shelly had hidden. In order to protect himself and his family from Eastman, who is keen to conduct scientific experiments using his unique DNA, he learns that his father is Bigfoot, who has been hiding deep in the forest for years. They were unaware that Fat Dan, a truck driver, had almost run Adam over before Bigfoot intervened, recorded it, and published it in the newspaper.

Adam discovers that he shares Bigfoot's superpowers, including having big feet, supersonic hearing and vision, the ability to run at superhuman speeds (Bigfoot told him to remove his shoes when he saw his toes protruding from them, explaining that he must always be barefoot as a Bigfoot), the ability to heal, and the ability to communicate with animals like Steve the woodpecker, Tina the red squirrel, Trapper the raccoon, his wife Weecha and their kits, Wilbur the bear, and Steve the woodpecker. When Eastman learns of the sighting, he investigates the Bigfoot traces. After pursuing Adam, Shelly is apprehended by Eastman. Eastman's men search for additional evidence by wandering around the forest. Ultimately, Bigfoot is captured after Adam is captured and used as bait to entice him.

Eastman identifies Dr. Harrison as Bigfoot, and he and his scientist Dr. Billingsley start their experiment on him. Dr. Billingsley's intern grows incredibly long hair all over his body as a result of the hair sample being tested on him. Adam enters HairCo. covertly with the animals' assistance and makes it to Bigfoot, but he will not comply. When Eastman shows up and tries to take Adam out, Adam sets off the fire alarm, which leads to mayhem. Adam returns to Bigfoot and persuades him to go. Toxic gases are released inside the control room to destroy the facility before they escape. When Eastman's guards return to Shelly's home, they discover that Adam's chopped hair is growing and conclude that he is also a Bigfoot. They call Eastman to let him know, and Shelly calms them down before heading out to save her family.

Adam and Bigfoot are confronted by Eastman outside. He throws Bigfoot off the facility bridge and declares that he only wants Adam at this time. With a flare gun he discovered inside HairCo., Adam fires at the structure. When the flare ignites with the poisonous fumes, the HairCo. establishment is destroyed. When Adam looks for Bigfoot, he discovers him unconscious. Adam revives Bigfoot and heals him, recalling his abilities. As Bigfoot declares that he is done hiding, Shelly tranquilizes Eastman.

The animals have moved in with the family after Bigfoot returns home. According to the cover of a magazine, Eastman was arrested for his unlawful activities. Adam's thugs try to haze him once more on his way to school. Adam calmly informs them that he has finally had enough and politely requests to be left alone after completing his journey. When they do not comply, Adam tells his animal friends, who then disassemble their bikes and scare them into leaving him alone, causing them to crash. Adam brushes off his animal companions as Emma notices the scene and inquires about it. When Adam's feet exploded out of his shoes once more, she agreed to walk with him to school. He throws his shoes on a telephone wire and starts to walk barefoot as he tells her about his life.
