1951, Budapest. The evacuees are crammed into trucks loaded with all their belongings. They head for Hortobágy, where the State Protection Authority has designated a forced settlement for them. Imre Vendel, a former military officer, is moving in one of the trucks with his pregnant wife and two young sons.
