Marine Sgt. Brandon Beckett (Chad Michael Collins ), the son of Thomas Beckett (Tom Berenger), takes up the mantle set by his father and goes on a mission of his own.Brandon's squad had transferred to Congo from Afghanistan just 2 months before, as part of the ATEP (Africa Train and Equip Program). They were training the Congo military to fight against rebel forces backed by terrorists. In exchange, African troops would join coalition forces in Afghanistan. The Congo forces on the base were led by Captain Sporo Ngoba (Khulum M. Skenjana).
While working with the UN Forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Brandon Beckett receives orders to rescue a European farmer, Jean Van Brunt (Rob Fruithoff), in the middle of hostile rebel territory in August 2010. The UN forces were not allowed in Congo, but the Government cleared them for a single mission, as rebels are threatening all Europeans in Congo after it ceased to be a Belgian colony. All communication attempts with Jean have been unsuccessful. UN cannot fly in there, as the rebels have access to Strela missiles.
The mission has 10 soldiers, 5 from UN and 5 from the Congo army. The UN members are Kyle Brown (Hlomla Dandala), Vincent Capobianco (Nic Rasenti), Brandon, Captain Dustin Nelson (Conrad Kemp) and Martin Hoag (Justin Shaw).Lieutenant Ellen Abramowitz (Annabel Wright) is with military intelligence and attached to Brandon's unit.
When he and his men arrive at the farm, Dustin orders Jean to vacate the farm despite his reluctance and is told that he does not have a choice in the matter.A mysterious sniper ambushes them, wounding Beckett and killing everyone else. Jean is shot dead too as he tries to make his way back into his house. Brandon and Dustin take shelter in an abandoned military cargo container next to Jean's house. Brandon wants to wait till dusk, when the sniper's day vision will be compromised, and he won't be able to use his night vision goggles, to make his move.At dusk, the 2 soldiers try to escape, but Dustin is shot dead, and Brandon is wounded in the shoulder and falls in a hole in the ground. Before losing consciousness, Brandon gets a look at the sniper.
Brandon is rescued by poacher Martin Chandler (Patrick Lyster) and taken to his camp. Martin was hunting when he heard the shots, but it was all over by the time he got there. Martin runs an orphanage that protects the kids from being taken by rebels and being trained to become soldiers.Brandon and Martin return to Jean's house and find his daughter Kelli Van Brunt (Kayla Privett) hiding inside the house. They return to Martin's camp only to find the rebels ransacking it and stealing the orphans. They kill many rebels, but the kids are still taken away.Martin decides to pursue the rebels, but Brandon decides to take Kelli back to base. They have to travel on foot, 4 Kms to the border, across which lies the UN base. Brandon manages to cross the border with Kelli, but then collapses from his wound which had gone septic.
With the help of his father's former protege, sniper instructor Richard Miller (Billy Zane), and UN Lieutenant Ellen Abramowitz (Annabel Wright) Beckett sets out on a personal mission to avenge the deaths of his team members.Miller gets a note in the US, where he is a sniper instructor. Miller travels to the UN base to meet Brandon. Miller wants Brandon to come back to the US, but Brandon wants to kill the sniper.
Captain Ngoba was at the farm, but he made it back to the base. He reports that he was separated from the rest of his unit when it came under direct attack and choose to return to base. The bullet removed from Brandon's shoulder reveals a rifle make that is US made and not Russian. The sniper was using a US sniper rifle with a Russian bullet. United Nations Colonel Ralf Jager dismisses concerns from Brandon and Ellen and closes the inquiry as a rebel attack.
Brandon speaks to Kelli and finds that Jean was trading with the rebels and the Congo army. So, the rebels could not have killed him. Brandon speaks to Ellen who asks Brandon to let it go, but he is persistent.
Brandon goes AWOL to find the rebels and he contacts Martin for help. He wants to know who was supplying rebel with the weapons, including the one he was shot with.Martin and Brandon travel to a rebel base where Brandon sees that rebels have several caches of US arms. Unknown to Brandon, Miller was also helping them fight off the rebels. Miller says that he knows the sniper.
Beckett learns the identity of the sniper, ex-Marine Vincent "The Italian" Masiello (Justin Strydom), a former student of Miller's. Miller reckons Jean was providing US weapons to the rebels, but they would have been supplied to Jean by somebody. The attack at Jean's house looks like a cover up.To get Vincent to come to him, Brandon tells Ellen his location and asks for a rescue. Ellen informs Jager, who sends Ellen with a security detail to pick up Brandon. But Ellen is followed by a hit squad which attacks Ellen and Brandon, while Miller provides cover.
Captain Ngoba was part of the kill squad, whom Brandon captures. He reveals that Vincent was acting under the orders of United Nations Colonel Ralf Jager (Richard Sammel) to cover up an arms dealing conspiracy supplying weapons to both sides of an ongoing civil war.Captain Ngoba is killed by Vincent, who had also incapacitated Miller. Brandon manages to distract Vincent and find his location and his bullet shatters Vincent's telescope.
At night, Brandon again plays a trick by triggering a huge explosion that blinds Vincent in his night vision goggles. This allows Brandon to flank Vincent and kill him. Miller had disappeared.
Shortly after apprehending Jager (and getting him to confess which was recorded by Ellen), Beckett is offered the job by Miller for Special Operations.
