A village in the mid-50s. People are leaving to start anew in the big city. Families are moving. In the midst of all, a boy and a girl are not too eager to leave childhood behind. They stick to their children's games, yet all of a sudden it's time for their first heart throbs to appear. The boy's mother is a widow, lonely, yet tender and warm to others, An old man, barely holding up, is looking for someone to share his last days with, and someone to bury him in the desolate cemetery. Each of the characters seems to nurture close to their heart the hope, timid as a wild hare, that there is a better life to come.
