"Simoom" is an experimental animated short film/music video about everyone's struggles in daily life. A man fights his way through a sand storm in the desert. He carries a heavy box in his arms. The storm gets stronger and stronger and he sinks further and further into the sand. Finally, he seems to totally disappear and even choke. We see heavy mechanical parts, slowly moving, that turn out to be crankshafts and rods of a huge, massive steam engine, which suddenly bursts through the sand dunes. The man stands on top of it, like a figurehead, a hero, as the engine now easily plows its way through the storm. At his feet, we see the box. While its content remains unknown, it obviously is the one thing in his life that keeps him going. The steam engine stands as a metaphor for his cast-iron will.—JKV
