After the demise of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Young Chhatrapati Sambhaji held the reigns of the Maratha empire. The city of Burhanpur held a special significance for Aurangzeb, who wanted to turn it into the capital city of the south. To achieve this goal, he appointed Bahadur Khan as the Subhedar of Burhanpur.
