A motorcycle riding lawyer fights to save the life of a mentally challenged man on death row. However, his own mother is ready to let him go.

Diana Cadell, a former Los Angeles prosecutor, takes a sabbatical from her private practice and visits two of her old friends, Nick and Sheila Finn, whom live in sunny Florida. Sheila is a fellow lawyer on maternity leave who asks Diana to represent Gilbert Rawlins, a young man on death row for murdering a young woman 10 years earlier, to try to get a stay of execution. After meeting Rawlins, Diana finds that he is mentally challenged and does not understand or remember the nature of his crime. Setting herself to try to get his impeding execution halted, Diana finds obstacles in the form of Rawlins' own mother, Ginny, whom, ashamed her entire life of her son being mentally handicapped, wants to let him die and refuses to help Diana. Another obstacle comes in the form of Josh McHale, the state attorney pushing for Gilbert Rawlins' execution and whom happens to be dating Diana at the same time.—matt-282
