Peace and safety are credited to Sheriff Clayton Calhoun and Deputy Heath Campbell who the townspeople hold in high regard. When a few landowners start having troubles including a woman close to the Sheriff's heart, Mary Thatcher, people assume it is from a known gunfighter, Flint Rivers, who recently arrived in town. Everyone fears he is working for the railroad who has been looking at the area to expand.
