Marianna, Shira, and JJ struggle to overcome their pasts and draw on their personal strength and one another to navigate the storm of relationships, intrigue, and romantic tension, as well as danger and violence, to find happiness.

Marianna's wedding day is ruined when her former lover Alejandro, a crime-syndicate leader, shoots her husband Jacob. A year later, Jacob is paralyzed and Marianna is working as a maid to pay the bills while they live in hiding from Alejandro and his gunmen. Shira has her own struggles as she seeks US citizenship by entering into a fake lesbian marriage with her boss, Annalyse, a former child star with a drug problem. Things get even more complicated as they develop genuine feelings. Annalyse's self-destructiveness increases and Shira isn't sure if she can help her without jeopardizing her own future.
