Summaries

In 2010 the mining company Tayahua, property of Carlos Slim, began relocating 150 families from the community of Salaverna in the state of Zacatecas. The company plans to extract silver and minerals by open-pit mining. More than 100 families were relocated but 35 decided to stay put. Three years later, the 35 families continue to live in their homes despite pressure from the mining enterprise and the government. Although they receive no outside help, the remaining families are determined to defend their homes and animals.
