Safiye Ayla (1907 - 1998) was one of the most famous singers of Turkish classical music. Her musical education began as a piano student for Mustafa Sunar. Later as a vocalist she performed at the most important casinos. When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk heard her voice in 1932 Safiye Ayla became one of his favorite singers. Countless of her concerts were broadcast on Turkish radio, and she made more than 500 recordings.—Anonymous
