Synopsis

Sachin was a naughty boy and would not normally listen to his mother Rajani. Sachin's father was a Marathi professor. Only Sachin's elder brother Nitin could control him during his childhood. Sachin attributes his diligence to his mother. His elder sister was Savita, who gifted Sachin his first cricket bat. In 1983 Sachin starts playing gully cricket for the first time. Ajit started to guide Sachin and really understood his feelings.

Ajit took Sachin to Ramakanth Achrekar. After a nervous start Sachin finds his groove and is noticed by Ramakanth. Sachin has a grueling schedule from 6 am till night. Ramakanth also taught Sachin that a player is never bigger than the team & to play selflessly. Every time Sachin would do good at practice, he would give money to him for Vada Pao. Sachin then scripted a world record partnership with Vinod Kambli for school cricket and made a name for himself in the Mumbai circuit. At 14 Sachin plays Ranji and at 16, he is selected to play for India in 1989. In 1989 Kashmir militancy is starting and, in that tension, Sachin plays his first series against Pak in Pak, facing Wasim, Waqar and Imran.

Sachin got out cheaply in the first test. Ravi Shastri asked Sachin to practice without a helmet and to take the body blows. In the next match, Wasim breaks Sachin's nose & Miandad tells Sachin to go to the hospital. Sachin plays on and makes 57 runs and saved the match for India. In the next few days, he hits Abdul Qadir for 4 sixes in a exhibition match after Qadir challenges him.Sachin scores a century in his next series in England. In 1993 BCCI for the first time sold cricket broadcast rights to ESPN for $ 650,000. Then Sachin opens in a one day for the first time and hits 82 from 48 balls against NZ. Sachin met Anjali at Mumbai airport, when she was there to receive her mother. They dated for a while and then Anjali asked Sachin's parents for their permission to get married. Anjali left her career as a doctor, after marriage.

The resulting riots ensure that the game is abandoned, and the match awarded to Sri Lanka. In 1996, Sachin was selected as captain of the Indian team (he was still 22). He started by winning a couple of series, but eventually the losses piled up and people wondered if captaincy was weighing down Sachin's batting. Sachin also felt that Azhar was creating a rift in the team by encouraging parallel power centers. The nadir came in WI when India lost a test chasing 127. He lost the captaincy on return.

Anjali became Sachin's pillar of support, guiding him through this tough phase. Sara and Arjun were Sachin's kids. Sachin designed his own custom kits, with extra padding on pads and gloves. The series of 1998 against Australia was billed as Warne Vs Sachin. Sachin prepped for that series by asking practice blowers to bowl outside the leg stump to him. Once again, Sachin started by getting out cheaply on the 1st innings. Sachin scores 155 not out in the 2nd and conquers Warne. In the ensuing Sharjah cup, Sachin plays his most memorable innings to take India all by himself into the finals against Australia and then wins it for India.

Sachin was in London for the 1999 world cup when on the night before Zimbabwe match, Anjali came to Sachin's room and told him that his dad died of a heart attack. After this every time Sachin scored a century, he would look up and thank his dad.In 1999 Sachin was again asked to take the reins of captaincy, even though Sachin was opposed to the idea, due to the inglorious exit of the previous instance. After a disastrous tour of Australia in 1999-2000, he again resigns. Then the match fixing scandal breaks and Sachin can't believe that that's what some of his teammates did.

Ganguly was appointed captain and went into the epic series of 2000-2001 vs Aus. After the turnaround in Calcutta, Ganguly goes on to captain India in the NatWest series in England. The team going to South Africa for 2003 world cup was very strong. Sachin prepped meticulously for the game against Pakistan and was in the form of his life. India beat Pak but lost to Australia in the final. Sachin won the man of the series award, but it did not mean anything to him.

Post this Sachin goes through a tough phase with injuries in his career. The tennis elbow and the broken toe are the worst. He works through a strict recovery regime and is annoyed that suddenly his medical issues are national news. He returns to cricket in 2005. Even then he pined for the world cup in 2007.

Then Greg Chappel happened. Everyone felt threatened in his regime and he was looked at like a school headmaster. Harbhajan thought Chappel wanted to divide and rule. Greg forced Sachin to drop down the order. The team lost to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and was out in the first round itself. Sachin thought of retirement when sections of the media questioned Sachin's commitment to the game. Sir Vivian Richards called Sachin and asked him carry on. From then on, Sachin set his eyes on the 2011 world cup and the final at the Wankhede stadium.

In between were the Mumbai attacks and Sachin's innings in Chennai that he dedicated to 26/11. the IPL, the charity work, the first man to reach 200 not out in an ODI.The 2011 world cup was Sachin's last chance to win the world cup and the whole team was centered around this motivation.
