When Jim and Scrubby arrive to see Scrubby's sister, they find her murdered and suspect it was her no good husband Jake. While driving their herd of cattle from Texas to a new range, Jim Langley (Kermit Maynard) and his old pal Scrubby (Ralph Peters), stop off in Cottonwood to visit Scrubby's sister, Ethyl Horne (Betty Mack). Her husband, Jake Horne (Olin Francis), is a cattle rustler whom Jim once saved from jail because of his friendship with Scrubby and Ethyl. Jake has gone back to his old ways and has formed a gang of cattle rustlers and stagecoach robbers, headed by his henchmen Soapy Phllips (Curley Dresden) and Hank (Cliff Parkinson). Because of their child, Ethel has stuck with him but decides to leave when she learns he has killed a sheriff a sheriff in a recent holdup. The angered Jake hits her on her temple and she dies. Jim and Scrubby find her dead on the cabin floor, Jake gone and the baby crying in the next room. Jim rides off to get some milk for the baby and is discovered milking a cow at a nearby ranch by the owner's daughter, Helen Holbert (Beryl Wallace), who thinks he is a rustler. Jim disarms her and takes her back to look after the baby. Two detectives, Walters (Dave O'Brien) and Thomas (Newt Kirby) arrive and arrest Jim and Scrubby as stagecoach robbers.
