An eccentric bag lady rescues the stray cats of Venice and puts them on a boat to set sail for the New World.

An eccentric Venetian bag lady, La Dame aux Chats (Sir John Hurt), lives with her pet rat on a houseboat named "Fellini". The only human being in this movie, she saves the lives of Juliet (Francesca Annis), a gorgeous pure white Turkish Angora, and her feline family by smuggling them onto a boat bound for the New World. After she reaches the docks of New York City, Juliet meets her Romeo (Robert Powell), a smoky long-haired grey feral. Through the mystical grace of cats, featuring the music of Sergei Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet Ballet" score and voice-overs by award-winning British talent, the timeless love story unfolds.—Judith Lungen
