Summaries

The story of a 1966 railway community, told through the eyes of an eleven-year-old boy named Timus.

Based on Jan von Tonder's novel of the same title, the story of a 1966 railway community is told through the eyes of an 11-year-old boy called Timus. He and his family are trapped within the structural violence caused in tandem by the government and the church. An unlikely hero, Joon, often appears to save Timus, who sees these acts of kindness as miracles. Timus tells the story of Joon and also his own coming-of-age and loss of innocence, and goes on to save his own community by the end. This story with unforgettable characters and combines the magical world of childhood beautifully with the realistic world we live in.—Salmon de Jager
