Synopsis

The river patrol is keeping a look out for smugglers and slave traders on the rivers. When they spot a smugglers' boat, shots are exchanged and one of the patrol's crew members is killed and the smugglers get away.

One of the patrol men, Robbie Robinson [John Blythe], returns to the water guard office to report the death. His boss tells him thousands of pairs of nylon stockings are being smuggled in and Robbie is tasked with combating the nylon smugglers.

Robbie enlists the help of Jean Nichols [Lorna Dean] to go undercover with him. They go to the docks pretending they are looking for nylons. In a bar, a drunk customer arrives with some, so Robbie and Jean follow him outside and apprehend him for questioning back at the office. He cannot remember much but has a gambling chip from a club in his pocket. An informer called Nicky identifies the club the chip has come from and agrees to get Robbie and Jean into the club.

At the club, Robbie pretends to be a bootlegger and agrees with the manager to provide him with three cases of good whiskey, to gain his confidence and help plant Jean in the club. When they return with the whiskey the manager offers Jean a job. Club owner The Guv [Wally Patch] arrives soon after with his sidekick Alex [Stan Paskin] and pays Robbie for the whiskey, cementing their arrangement.

The Guv and Alex sail to France to negotiate a deal to buy nylon stockings in a bar. Back on board The Guv's boat, the Frenchmen show them the nylons but The Guv murders them both to avoid paying.

Back at the club, Robbie sees a newspaper reporting that the body of a Frenchman strangled with a nylon stocking has been washed up on the shore. The Guv arrives and talks to Jean and Robbie, but Robbie leaves pretending he is going home to bed. Instead he climbs upstairs to search the Guv's room. Jean tries to detain The Guv as long as possible but he returns to his room while Robbie is still searching it. The Guv hears someone in the room so sends Alex in through one door while he goes round the back. The Guv knocks Robbie out and Alex searches him, finding Robbie's government issue gun. Jean hides outside the club and watches The Guv's men carry Robbie out and put him in the back of a car. She telephones the water guard office to alert them that The Guv is taking Robbie to an old warehouse near the river.

At the warehouse, The Guv instructs Alex to keep lookout. Robbie regains consciousness and manages to free his hands from their rope bindings and when the Guv returns, a fight ensues between them. Meanwhile the water guard men pick up Jean and head to the warehouse. They apprehend Alex and then go to assist Robbie as he defeats the Guv.

Patched up and back at the water guard office with the case closed and the gang in custody, Robbie proposes to Jean with a diamond ring.
