Stefano, a young journalist, buys a used typewriter and accidentally sees that some text is still readable on the ribbon. He manages to reconstruct the story of a scientist, Paolo Zeder, who in the 1950's discovered that some types of terrain have the power to revive the dead that are buried in them. Stefano's investigations bring him in contact with a group of renegade scientists that are still making experiments to prove Zeder's theories.—Giancarlo Cairella <[email protected]>
In Bologna, the aspirant writer Stefano receives a used typewriter that his wife Alessandra bought in a pawn shop as a gift for their first wedding anniversary. Stefano accidentally reads a weird text on the ribbon about some K-fields discovered by Paolo Zeder that reanimate the buried dead and he becomes obsessed to investigate the story with tragic consequences.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Gabriella (Veronica Moriconi), a teenage girl with apparent psychic powers, is brought to the enormous house of Dr. Meyer (Cesare Barbetti). Meyer intends to conduct an experiment testing her abilities. He takes her into his basement, where the youngster abruptly falls to her knees and begins digging into the dirt. "This is where you're hiding, isn't it?" Meyer yells. He rushes upstairs for help from his assistants and leaves Gabriella by herself. She is attacked by something unseen and is taken to the hospital where her right leg is mangled. In the basement, further digging by a police forensic team led by Inspector Bouffet reveals a rotted corpse, with a nearby wallet identifying the dead man as Paolo Zeder. Dr. Meyer realizes that the earth in which Zeder was buried was a 'K-Zone'.
In present day Bologna, Italy, Stefano (Gabriele Lavia), a novelist, is given an old typewriter as a birthday present by his wife Alessandra (Anne Canovas). One night, after Alessandra has gone to bed, he discovers a series of typed letters on the typewriter's ribbon. As he reads the ribbon, he finds it is an essay written by scientist Paolo Zeder discussing the existence of K-Zones; areas where death ceases to exist. According to Zeder's essay, bodies buried in these zones can return from the dead.
Stefano investigates the message left on the typewriter ribbon. He first talks with Professor Chesi (John Stacy), his writing professor where he shows him copies of the typewriter ribbon and the full text of the two letters that Stefano transcribed. Chesi tells Sefano about Paolo Zeder's investigation into the so-called K-Zones where past experiments have sought to look for ways to raise the dead. But all tests were declared inclusive and that Paolo Zeder's remains were found in an area thought to be a K-Zone, but the theory was proven incorrect.
Meanwhile, a middle aged Gabriella (Paola Tanziani) is revealed to be alive (who limps with a wooden prosthetic right leg) and working for a strange cabal with Dr. Meyer where she is seen visiting the Vactican in Rome to deliver some letters of her reports. She then travels to another city where she meets with Meyer where they present their research to the man in charge of the cabal (Bob Tonelli) to give her update on the needs for further work into the project.
Back in Bolonga, Stefan continues his personal investigate into the origins of the electric typewriter and the K-Zones, encountering people who make it clear that they do not appreciate any questions relating to Paolo Zeder or K-Zones. However, the resistance he experiences intrigues him even more. With a little help from his policeman friend Guido, Stefan looks for the original owner of the electric typewriter, a certain Don Luigi Costa, but when he arrives at the address he encounters Giovini (Fernando Orlandi), an assassin on the payroll of the cabal, who impersonates Costa and warns Stefan not to make any further inquires.
During a swim at a local pool with Guido, Stefan finds himself stalked by shadows when the lights in the pool area are turned off. He goes to his locker and finds that all the evidence including the typewriter ribbon and letters gone. Guido appears on the scene and claims ignorance to knowing about the letters.
When a young woman and a pupil of Professor Chesi phones Stefan and claims to have the answers he is looking for, she insists to meet with him at a remote location that night. But the woman is attacked by the assassin Giovini who kills her before she can meet with Stefan. When Stefan does not hear back from the woman, he becomes more obsessed with getting answers to the mystery and temporarily abandons his wife during a weekend getaway to the beach.
Stefan's investigation leads him to a huge old property, ostensibly abandoned but protected by electrified fences. A nearby gas service station attendant tells Stefano that French investors are building a gigantic hotel on the property, but no work is ever seen being done.
That evening, Stefano sneaks onto the property, and discovers surveillance equipment with numerous monitors showing the dead face of a man buried in a coffin. Stefano watches the monitors. The dead man is Don Luigi Costa, the ex-priest who abandoned his vows after contracting an incurable disease. Continuing Zeder's work, Costa had himself buried on the property, a suspected K-Zone, and his rebirth from the dead is caught on camera. Stefano manages to elude Giovini and the other conspirators involved in the experimental work, but finds his wife has been murdered by them.
At night, Stefano buries her in a K-Zone located on the abandoned property. She revives and approaches her husband. In the darkness, Stefano begins screaming horribly...
