The series tells the life of the famous painter through the eyes of his closest family and friends. Both his work, and especially his eventful life are covered.

Rembrandt and I is a Dutch mini-series about the painter Rembrandt van Rijn. "I" refers to the character with which Rembrandt is closely connected every episode, namely colleague Jan Lievens, wife Saskia van Uylenburgh, colleague Govert Flinck and daughter Cornelia. The series consists of four episodes of about one hour. On the basis of the scripts, author Ton van Mourik wrote the book of the same name, Rembrandt and Ik . While following the thread of the series, the book contains many more scenes, scenes and additional dialogues that further clarify the image of Rembrandt's troubled personal life.
