As the news of a bomb explosion in the Muzaffarnagar area spreads, two leading news agencies, India 24 & Headlines 24/7, deal with their respective ratings and content to attract more viewers and boost advertising revenue. Purab Shastri is hired by India 24, managed by Vijay H. Malik, while the other agency is run by Amrish Kakkar, Vijay's former subordinate. Purab, an ardent admirer of Vijay, changes his views after the later dramatically exposes Prime Minister Digvijay Hooda's hand behind the explosion, and starts to gather evidence that may end up implicating Vijay and the agency.—rAjOo ([email protected])
Vijay Harshwardhan Malik is CEO of news channel India 24/7 which is loosing its TRP status opposite a rival channel headed by Amrish Kakkar.Malik's son Jai decides to take the matters in his hands and plans new shows on the channel.But the information is leaked to Amrish Kakkar by Nalini Kashyap and employee of India 24/7 and Amrish starts similar contents on his show.Jai looses a lot of money and decides to go wrong way.Jai joins hands with corrupt politician Mohan Pandey who wants to be the next Prime minister and makes a fake video of a man called Khanna claiming that Prime Minister Hooda was responsible for recent blast in the city.Jai's brother in law Naveen Shankalya supports him as he wants to become the richest industrialist with the help of Mohan Pandey.Jai convinces his father the news is true and he should air it.The videos rocks the nation but one of Malik's reporter Purab finds truth regarding the video so will he expose his own work place.—[email protected]
Vijay Harshvardhan Malik, a reputed and ethical journalist remains oblivious to the conspiracies orchestrated by Mohan Pandey, a corrupt politician hoping to become the next PM. The scandal is carried out by none other than Vijay's own son Jay, and his daughter's industrialist husband Naveen Shankalya, who use Pandey's influence to spread false propaganda as an unethical pretext to make more money in their fields of business. Purab Shastri, a budding journalist who works under Vijay, seeks to uncover the dirty political game whilst also suspecting foul play on his mentor's side as it is directly benefitting the channel's business substantially.
Vijay Harshwardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan), the ethical CEO of struggling television channel India 24/7, is losing the ratings battle with a rival channel headed by Amrish Kakkar (Mohnish Behl) (who used to work at India 24/7 a few years ago). Vijay is principled and only reports facts without any sensationalizing. He talks about communal harmony and so on.. Lata (Neena Kulkarni) is Vijay's wife.Nalini Kashyap (Suchitra Krishnamurthy) is the COO of the channel and tells Vijay that their advertisers are falling out and the TRPs are at an all time low.
Purab Shastri (Ritesh Deshmukh) is a journalist who idolizes Vijay's ethics and joins his TV channel. Nandita Sharma (Gul Panag) is Purab's girlfriend and works in media. Anand Prakash Trivedi (Rajpal Yadav) is the creative editor at India 24/7Malik's son Jai (Sudeep) is worried about the financial position of the channel and wants to make the shows more mass friendly. Vijay doesn't agree with the changes, but is forced to agree since else they wont be able to even pay salaries to staff. But Purab stands up against the proposed changes and says that this will dilute the impact of the channel. Under practical considerations Vijay sides with Jai, and this troubles Purab.Nalini is a hidden mole of Amrish at India 24/7.. She leaks all competitive info to Amrish and this allows him and his channel to be ways ahead of Vijay and Jai. Jai is super frustrated about this and doesn't know how to ensure the survival of his channel (he has taken loans of Rs 30 Crores from the market to relaunch the shows). Yasmin Hussain (Neetu Chandra) is Jai's girlfriend.
Jai makes a deal with a wealthy and corrupt politician (and opposition leader), Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal), to frame the Prime Minister Digvijay Hooda (K K Raina) for being complicit in a terror attack. Pandey can then take over the position of PM and Jai will have enough money to start his own channel. Vijay knows of the PM as an honest politician and is supportive of his anti-terror bill that will give state more powers to act against anti-national elements in the country.Jai's brother-in-law Naveen Shankalya (Rajat Kapoor) (& wife Mrs Priya Shankalya (Simone Singh)) supports Mohan Pandey because he wants to become the biggest industrialist in the country and Pandey could help him by framing such policies. Naveen offers to pay off Jai's Rs 30 Crores loans if he manages to convince Vijay to carry the story on his channel.
Jai shoots a short video featuring his friend Khanna (Anuj Tikku) and a close friend of the PM Atul Kumar Dubey. This meeting is staged and the PM's friend, under duress, says that the PM was involved in plotting a bomb blast so as to create fear and panic among the people so that he could get the anti terror bill passed.Jai convinces his father that the story is true and believing it to be so, Malik airs it on his network. Later, Atul Dubey is found dead.. Khanna goes missing, but Naveen tells Jai that he too has been sacrificed.The scandal rocks the nation and elections are held in which Mohan Pandey wins. He becomes the PM.
However, Purab Shastri (Ritesh Deshmukh), discovers the plot. He remembers seeing Khanna at Vijay's Bday party, arriving with Mohan Pandey. This is shocking since Vijay has been asking on his own channel as to who Khanna is. He shares this info with Nalini. Purab finds that Jai is opening 2 more channels and Mohan Pandey is funding it. He thinks Khanna is connected to Jai.Purab acquires a new mobile number and texts Jai by posing as Khanna. Jai panics, but Naveen and Mohan assure him that Khanna is dead. Purab follows Jai to his home and accesses the security tapes that reveal that Khanna worked for Jai. Purab makes a copy of the footagePurab initially approaches Amrish Kakkar with a request to air his findings on the news (Amrish had approached Purab via Nalini and offered to reveal the truth and nothing more). Amrish, though, cuts a deal with Mohan Pandey (for rs 500 Crores) and does not air the CD.Purab then tells Vijay of his findings on the day his son is getting engaged.
Malik goes on air one final time and confesses the wrongdoings of his son, son-in-law and exposes Mohan Pandey. Unable to bear the guilt, Jai commits suicide. Mohan Pandey denies his role in the scandal.Malik steps down as the CEO of the news channel and hands over the baton to Purab who exposed the truth.
